Police Officer

Radford University is hiring a full-time Police Officer to join its campus law enforcement team in Radford, Virginia, safeguarding the students, faculty, staff, and facilities that make up the university community.

About the Role

As a Police Officer at Radford University's Main Campus, you will serve as a frontline protector of a vibrant college environment. This position carries the full responsibilities of a sworn law enforcement officer, operating within the university's dedicated police force to maintain a safe, secure campus for everyone who lives, works, and learns here.

What You'll Do

• Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols across campus buildings, parking areas, and grounds to deter criminal activity and ensure public safety
• Respond promptly to calls for service, emergencies, accidents, and reported incidents on and around the Radford University campus
• Identify and proactively address security vulnerabilities, safety hazards, and suspicious activity before they escalate
• Enforce Virginia state laws, local ordinances, and university policies in a fair, professional manner
• Prepare accurate, thorough incident and arrest reports in accordance with departmental standards
• Assist community members with directions, escorts, motorist assistance, and general public safety inquiries
• Coordinate with local Radford City law enforcement agencies and emergency responders when situations require
• Testify in court proceedings and participate in follow-up investigations as needed

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or GED; additional education in criminal justice or a related field is a plus
• Eligibility for law enforcement certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia (current certification preferred)
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, and physical fitness assessment
• Valid Virginia driver's license with a clean driving record
• Strong observational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to de-escalate tense situations effectively
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for report writing and community interaction
• Commitment to community-oriented policing principles in a diverse university setting
