Gausnell, O'Keefe & Thomas, LLC is hiring a full-time Attorney to join its civil defense practice in Lafayette Square, Saint Louis, Missouri — a great opportunity for a licensed litigator ready to handle complex civil matters across a range of liability disciplines.

About the Role

This Attorney position sits at the center of a busy civil defense caseload within a well-established mid-size firm. The right candidate brings hands-on litigation experience and thrives in a collaborative environment where attention to detail and courtroom readiness are equally valued. The role is based on-site in the firm's Saint Louis County office.

What You'll Do

• Manage civil litigation files from intake through resolution, including discovery, motions practice, depositions, and trial preparation
• Represent clients in matters involving one or more of the firm's core practice areas: transportation liability, premises liability, product liability, and general civil liability
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and correspondence with accuracy and efficiency
• Conduct legal research and develop defense strategies tailored to each matter
• Communicate proactively with clients, co-counsel, and opposing counsel throughout the life of each case
• Appear in Missouri state and federal courts as required

What We're Looking For

• Active Missouri law license in good standing — required
• Illinois bar admission is a meaningful advantage
• Demonstrated civil litigation experience, with exposure to defense-side work strongly preferred
• Familiarity with at least one of the following: transportation liability, premises liability, product liability, or general liability defense
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills
• Ability to manage a varied caseload independently while collaborating effectively with firm colleagues
• J.D. from an accredited law school
