The George Washington Masonic National Memorial is hiring a full-time Tour Guide/Docent at its iconic landmark in Alexandria, Virginia — an opportunity to bring American history to life for visitors from around the world.
About the Role
As a Tour Guide/Docent, you'll serve as the face of one of Alexandria's most recognized historic sites, leading guests through immersive, informative tours while delivering an exceptional visitor experience every day. This is an on-site, full-time position that includes weekend availability.
What You'll Do
- Conduct multiple guided tours daily, engaging diverse audiences with accurate, compelling presentations about the Memorial's history and significance
- Act as a liaison between guests and the institution, answering questions and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere throughout every visit
- Greet and check in museum visitors using basic computer systems and point-of-sale software
- Support a smooth guest flow during peak hours, special events, and high-traffic weekends
- Adapt tour content and communication style to suit varied audiences, including school groups, tourists, and members
What We're Looking For
- Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills — you're comfortable commanding a room and connecting with strangers
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tours and guest interactions throughout a full workday
- Basic proficiency with computers and point-of-sale or ticketing systems
- Reliability and flexibility to work weekends on a consistent basis
- A passion for history, education, or cultural institutions is a strong plus
