Flender, a global leader in mechanical drive systems, is seeking a skilled Gear Grinder A to join its full-time manufacturing team in Elgin, Illinois. This is an on-site production role with a company recognized worldwide for more than 125 years of engineering precision and reliability.
About the Role
As a Gear Grinder A at Flender's Elgin facility, you will operate precision gear grinding equipment to produce high-performance mechanical components that meet exacting tolerances. Your craftsmanship directly supports the quality and durability of drive systems relied upon across industrial sectors globally.
What You'll Do
- Set up, operate, and adjust CNC and conventional gear grinding machines to specification
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine grinding parameters
- Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measurement instruments including micrometers, calipers, and gear gauges
- Verify finished gear geometry and surface finish against GD&T callouts and quality standards
- Make machine offsets and corrective adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy throughout production runs
- Document production data, inspection results, and non-conformances in accordance with quality procedures
- Perform routine machine maintenance and assist with changeovers
- Adhere to all shop floor safety policies and PPE requirements
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated hands-on experience operating gear grinding or other precision CNC machining equipment
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints with GD&T
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools (micrometers, bore gauges, CMM familiarity a plus)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to first-article and in-process quality checks
- Solid understanding of metal cutting principles and grinding wheel selection
- Ability to work independently and maintain production pace in a team-oriented environment
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in machining preferred
