Underground Utility Locator

Vannguard Utility Partners is hiring a full-time Underground Utility Locator in Morristown, Winnebago County — a field-based role built for self-starters who prefer the outdoors over a desk and take pride in doing work that directly protects public safety.

About the Role

As an Underground Utility Locator, you'll be on the front line of damage prevention, identifying and marking buried utility infrastructure before any digging begins. This is a hands-on, autonomous position — you'll own your territory, manage your daily ticket load, and spend your time in the field, not in an office. Vannguard provides full training, so a background in utility locating is not required; drive and dependability matter far more.

This position pays $24.00 per hour and is based on-site across the Morristown, Winnebago County area.

What You'll Do

• Receive and prioritize daily locate requests for buried gas, electric, water, and telecommunications lines
• Deploy electromagnetic locating equipment and related tools to trace underground utilities at residential and commercial sites
• Mark utility locations using the APWA Uniform Color Code in compliance with project and regulatory requirements
• Complete accurate field documentation and submit locate records in a timely manner
• Communicate clearly with contractors, utility owners, and supervisors when site conditions require escalation
• Operate a company vehicle safely and maintain your assigned equipment in good working order

• Experience in utility locating, construction, or a skilled trade is a plus, but not a requirement
