Essel is hiring a full-time Environmental Superintendent to lead field operations on environmental construction and remediation projects out of our Tustin, Orange County office.
About the Role
As Environmental Superintendent at Essel, you will hold direct field authority over environmental remediation, soil remediation, demolition and decontamination, and habitat restoration projects across the region. You will be the on-site leader who keeps crews moving, subcontractors aligned, and every project delivered safely and in full regulatory compliance.
What You'll Do
- Direct and coordinate daily field activities across environmental remediation and habitat restoration job sites
- Supervise trade crews and subcontractors, ensuring work is executed to plan specifications and quality standards
- Enforce site health and safety protocols, conduct toolbox talks, and maintain a zero-incident culture
- Monitor project schedules, identify field-level risks, and escalate issues to the project manager proactively
- Oversee soil remediation operations including excavation, treatment, and confirmation sampling coordination
- Manage demolition and decontamination activities in compliance with applicable environmental regulations
- Maintain accurate field documentation — daily reports, safety logs, material tracking, and subcontractor records
- Serve as the primary point of contact between field crews and the project management team
- Coordinate equipment, materials, and site logistics to sustain uninterrupted project progress
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience supervising environmental construction or remediation field operations
- Working knowledge of soil remediation, site decontamination, demolition, and ecological restoration methods
- Proficiency with OSHA regulations; 40-hour HAZWOPER certification strongly preferred
- Proven ability to manage and motivate diverse field crews and subcontractor teams
- Solid understanding of environmental compliance requirements and permitting conditions
- Competence reading and interpreting construction drawings, site plans, and technical specifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for field reporting and stakeholder coordination
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet the physical demands of an active construction environment
