Northbrook School District 27 is hiring a full-time Assistant Elementary School Secretary to join the team at Hickory Point School in Northbrook, Illinois — a high-performing district serving approximately 1,300 students across three campuses.
About the Role
This 10.5-month secretarial position supports the daily administrative operations of Hickory Point Elementary School (Grades K–2), with an anticipated start date of August 13, 2026. As the front-line presence in the school office, the Assistant Elementary School Secretary plays a vital role in maintaining a welcoming, organized, and efficient environment for students, families, and staff.
What You'll Do
- Greet and assist students, parents, and visitors arriving at the school office
- Answer and route incoming phone calls, take messages, and manage general correspondence
- Maintain student attendance records and communicate absences to appropriate staff
- Support student health and safety procedures, including first aid assistance and parent notification
- Process enrollment paperwork and maintain accurate student files in compliance with district policies
- Assist with scheduling, calendaring, and coordination of school events and meetings
- Prepare and distribute school communications, newsletters, and mailings
- Provide clerical support to the principal and administrative team as needed
What We're Looking For
- Prior experience in a school office, administrative, or clerical support role preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a warm and professional demeanor
- Proficiency in standard office software including word processing, spreadsheets, and email
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced elementary school environment
- Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail
- Discretion in handling confidential student and family information
- Commitment to supporting a diverse, inclusive school community
