Cardinal Health

Cardinal Health is hiring a full-time Coordinator, Benefits Eligibility & Authorization to join its team in Urbanización El Vedado, San Juan — supporting patients and healthcare providers through accurate benefits verification and seamless authorization workflows.

About the Role

As a Benefits Eligibility & Authorization Coordinator at Cardinal Health, you serve as a critical link between patients, providers, and payers. Your work ensures that patients understand their coverage before care is delivered, that authorizations are secured on time, and that billing disputes are resolved efficiently. This position sits at the intersection of healthcare operations and customer service — detail-oriented work that directly affects patient access to care.

What You'll Do

  • Verify patient-specific health insurance benefits prior to treatment or medication dispensing, confirming coverage details, deductibles, co-pays, and plan limitations.
  • Initiate and track prior authorization requests with commercial insurers, managed care organizations, and government payers.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, clinical staff, and insurance carriers to resolve eligibility discrepancies, claim denials, and reimbursement disputes.
  • Support medical billing and reimbursement processes by ensuring authorization documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted within payer-required timelines.
  • Research payer policies and coverage criteria to identify the fastest path to authorization approval.
  • Communicate authorization status updates clearly to patients and internal stakeholders, escalating complex cases as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records in relevant systems, ensuring audit-ready documentation for every case worked.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in healthcare benefits verification, prior authorization, medical billing, or a closely related insurance/reimbursement function.
  • Solid understanding of health insurance terminology — including EOBs, CPT/ICD codes, formularies, and payer portals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex payer requirements with persistence and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective liaison work with insurers, patients, and clinical teams.
  • High attention to detail and comfort managing multiple open cases simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with healthcare information systems and standard office software.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) capability is a plus given the San Juan, Puerto Rico market.
