Assistant Performance Coach

Details is seeking a motivated, full-time Assistant Performance Coach to join its Intercollegiate Athletics staff in San Diego, California — supporting student-athletes across a Division I collegiate program rooted in the mission of the University of San Diego, a Roman Catholic institution committed to academic and athletic excellence.

About the Role

As an Assistant Performance Coach within the Athletics Department, you will collaborate with coaches, sports medicine staff, and athletic administrators to design and deliver evidence-based strength and conditioning programs that help student-athletes compete at their highest level — while developing as scholars and individuals.

What You'll Do

• Assist in planning, organizing, and leading sport-specific strength and conditioning sessions for assigned athletic teams
• Design periodized training programs aligned with each team's competitive calendar and recovery demands
• Monitor athlete progress through performance testing and data tracking, adjusting programming as needed
• Educate student-athletes on proper movement mechanics, injury prevention strategies, and recovery best practices
• Collaborate closely with the sports medicine and nutrition staff to support holistic athlete development
• Maintain a safe, organized, and well-functioning weight room environment in accordance with facility protocols
• Ensure all programming and operations remain compliant with NCAA rules and university policies
• Contribute to a department culture that prioritizes student-athlete well-being, integrity, and mission alignment

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, or a closely related field (Master's preferred)
• Current NSCA-CSCS, NSCA-CSPS, or equivalent nationally recognized strength and conditioning certification
• Current CPR/AED certification
• Prior experience in a collegiate, professional, or elite-level performance coaching environment
• Working knowledge of periodization principles, functional movement screening, and sport science applications
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to connect with diverse student-athletes and staff
• Commitment to the values of a Catholic university and the broader educational mission of the institution
