Independent Freight Agent

About the Role

As an Independent Freight Agent at RB Humphreys, you operate with the entrepreneurial freedom to grow your own client portfolio while leveraging our established carrier authority and industry relationships. You'll focus on temperature-controlled transportation — a specialized, high-demand segment of the freight market — connecting shippers with reliable capacity and delivering consistent service from first call to final delivery.

What You'll Do

• Prospect, develop, and retain shipper accounts to build a sustainable, growing book of business
• Source and negotiate competitive freight rates with carriers across the temperature-controlled network
• Match shipper loads with qualified, compliant carriers and coordinate end-to-end movement of freight
• Serve as the primary point of contact for your customers, resolving issues proactively and maintaining high service standards
• Track shipments and communicate status updates to shippers and carriers throughout the transit lifecycle
• Maintain accurate records of loads, rates, and customer interactions within the company's systems
• Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts and strengthen long-term relationships

What We're Looking For

• Prior experience in freight brokerage, third-party logistics (3PL), or transportation sales — especially in temperature-controlled or refrigerated freight
• Demonstrated ability to prospect and close new business independently
• Strong negotiation skills with both shippers and carriers
• Excellent communication and relationship-management abilities
• Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy
• Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and load boards
• Knowledge of DOT regulations, carrier vetting, and freight documentation is a plus
