Fuse

Fuse is hiring a full-time Computational Physicist in San Leandro, Alameda County, to model and simulate the pulsed power systems behind next-generation fusion energy.

About the Role

As a Computational Physicist at Fuse, you will translate the physics of high-energy pulsed power into predictive simulations that guide the design of our generators. This is an on-site position based at our San Leandro facility, where you'll collaborate closely with experimentalists and engineers to turn computational insight into working hardware. Because Fuse is an early-stage fusion company, you should be ready to take on varied responsibilities and adapt as priorities evolve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, run, and refine numerical models of pulsed power generators and impedance-matched systems such as TITAN, our Impedance Matched Marx Generator (IMG).
  • Simulate electrical and plasma physics phenomena to predict machine performance at terawatt scales.
  • Validate computational results against experimental data from devices like Magical Unicorn and FAETON I.
  • Partner with engineering teams to inform design decisions and improve efficiency and power output.
  • Document methods and findings to support an iterative, fast-moving development cycle.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in physics, with emphasis on computational modeling and numerical simulation.
  • Experience applying physics-based codes to electrical, electromagnetic, or plasma systems.
  • Comfort working in a hands-on, early-stage environment where roles shift frequently.
  • Ability to work on-site in San Leandro, Alameda County.

About Fuse

Fuse is dedicated to speeding up the world's shift toward fusion energy. Our flagship machine, TITAN, is an Impedance Matched Marx Generator recognized as one of the most efficient and powerful terawatt-class devices of its kind. The team has also built and licensed two original pulsed power generators, Magical Unicorn and FAETON I, reflecting a culture of rapid invention and practical engineering.
