About the Role
As an HVAC Technician I with Richland County School District Two, you will install, service, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems that support daily learning environments. This is a 245-day maintenance position based at the district's Support Services Center, tied to the 2026–2027 school year. The role is classified under the district's Maintenance Worker – HVAC track (pay Grade 111, 114, 115), with advancement opportunities through Levels I, II, and III as skills and experience grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC equipment in district buildings.
- Respond to service requests to maintain reliable heating and cooling throughout school facilities.
- Conduct inspections to identify wear, inefficiency, or potential equipment failures before they disrupt operations.
- Carry out preventive maintenance schedules to extend the life of mechanical systems.
- Follow all applicable safety codes, district procedures, and manufacturer guidelines while on the job.
- Document completed work and communicate status updates to supervisors and facilities staff.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning fundamentals appropriate for an entry-level technician.
- Ability to use hand tools, diagnostic instruments, and standard HVAC equipment safely and effectively.
- Willingness to work a 245-day schedule and respond to facility needs as they arise.
- Strong attention to detail, dependability, and a commitment to safe working practices.
- Capacity to perform the physical demands of mechanical maintenance work in a school setting.
