About the Role

As a Driver Operator/Engineer (Fire) with Pender County Government, you will report to the Fire Captain or another senior officer, and at times act on your own judgment in the field. The core of this position is keeping your assigned fire apparatus, tools, and station facilities fully prepared to answer a wide range of life-saving emergency calls, while operating firefighting and rescue equipment safely and efficiently in Burgaw, Pender County.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate, drive, and position fire apparatus during emergency and non-emergency responses.
• Inspect, maintain, and test assigned vehicles, equipment, and facilities to guarantee constant response readiness.
• Respond to diverse emergency calls, supporting firefighting, rescue, and life-saving operations.
• Manage pumps, hoses, and related firefighting systems with safety and precision.
• Carry out duties under the supervision of the Fire Captain or a higher-ranking officer, or independently when circumstances require.
• Help ensure equipment performance, cleanliness, and compliance with departmental standards.

Qualifications

• Proven firefighting experience with the ability to safely operate fire and rescue apparatus.
• Working knowledge of firefighting equipment, pump operation, and apparatus maintenance.
• Capability to perform physically demanding tasks in high-pressure emergency conditions.
• Sound judgment and the ability to act decisively, both under supervision and independently.
