Greater Albany Public School District 8J is seeking a dependable, compassionate Bus Attendant to support the safe daily transportation of students throughout our community in the US. This full-time, classified position plays a vital role in ensuring every rider—especially those with special needs—travels to and from school securely and with dignity.
About the Role
As a Bus Attendant with Greater Albany Public School District 8J, you will provide attentive physical and behavioral support to special education students during their bus routes. Working closely with the driver and reporting to the Transportation Supervisor, you help create a calm, secure environment on board. This is a classified position scheduled for 6 hours per day across a 180-day work calendar, with a pay range of $18.88–$23.22 (2025/26 rate).
Key Responsibilities
- Assist special education students as they board, ride, and exit the bus safely.
- Provide physical care and behavioral support tailored to individual student needs.
- Help students remain properly secured and seated throughout each route.
- Monitor rider conduct and respond calmly to challenges as they arise.
- Communicate effectively with the bus driver, families, and the Transportation Supervisor.
- Support a positive, respectful atmosphere that prioritizes student well-being.
Qualifications
- Genuine patience and care when working with students who have special needs.
- Ability to assist students physically and manage behavioral situations with composure.
- Strong, courteous communication skills with students, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Reliability and a consistent commitment to a 180-day school transportation schedule.
