The School District of the City of Pontiac, in partnership with Oakland Schools, is hiring a full-time, on-site ESL Instructional Coach to strengthen English language learning programs and empower classroom teachers.
About the Role
As an ESL Instructional Coach with Oakland Schools in the United States, you will serve as a building-level leader who shapes how English as a Second Language instruction is planned, delivered, and measured. This is a certified student support services position centered on bilingual education, where your guidance directly impacts both teacher practice and student achievement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, launch, and refine a thorough core content program for English language learners.
- Coordinate ESL instructional efforts across grade levels and classrooms to ensure consistency and alignment.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and use findings to inform ongoing improvements.
- Mentor and support classroom teachers in adopting research-backed strategies for multilingual learners.
- Provide leadership and clear direction at the school site to advance equitable language access.
Qualifications
- Appropriate certification as a student support services or certified other professional, as required for this role.
- Background in English as a Second Language or bilingual instruction.
- Experience coaching or mentoring fellow educators is highly valued.
- Strong skills in program design, coordination, and data-informed evaluation.
- Commitment to supporting diverse, multilingual student populations.
