Berkshire Hathaway Energy is hiring a full-time Associate Distribution Operator in Urbandale, Polk County, to help keep electricity flowing safely and reliably across the MidAmerican Energy Company service territory.
About the Role
As an Associate Distribution Operator, you will work hands-on with the 15 kV electric power system, monitoring and operating distribution assets in line with MidAmerican Energy Company operating standards and guidelines. Reporting to and supported by a distribution operator or shift supervisor, this on-site position in Urbandale, Polk County, is ideal for someone who thrives in a real-time, safety-focused control environment and wants to grow into a senior operations role.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and operate the 15 kV electric distribution system according to established MidAmerican Energy Company procedures.
- Assist the distribution operator and shift supervisor with day-to-day system oversight and control activities.
- Support callout coordination, dispatching, and the timely response to system events and field crew needs.
- Apply company operating standards and guidelines to help maintain reliable, safe power delivery to customers.
- Learn and develop the skills needed to advance toward a full distribution operator position.
Qualifications
- Ability to work under the direction of a distribution operator or shift supervisor in a structured operations setting.
- Strong attention to detail and the discipline to follow operating standards, guidelines, and safety protocols precisely.
- Comfort monitoring electric power systems and responding to real-time situations such as callouts and dispatching.
- Willingness to work on-site in Urbandale, Polk County (this is not a remote role).
- Clear communication skills for coordinating with operators, supervisors, and field personnel.
