Donor Assessment Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

TransMedics was founded to address the unmet need for more and better organs for transplantation. The Donor Assessment Coordinator is part of TransMedics’ NOP program and plays a critical role in donor offer screening, clinical evaluation, communication, and coordination with TransMedics partners, resulting in better utilization of donor organs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Screen organ offers from the OPTN contractor in accordance with Transplant Center protocols and workflows.
  • Effectively communicate with Transplant Center teams, OPO staff, recipients, operating room (OR) teams, and internal TransMedics teams.
  • Maintain knowledge of, understand, and adhere to OPTN policies.
  • Ensure seamless coordination of donor assessment from clinical review through surgeon and recipient communication to transplantation.
  • Collaborate with the TransMedics Logistics team.
  • Consult with TransMedics Clinical Leadership as appropriate.
  • Complete accurate pre- and post-transplant documentation in the Transplant Center EMR and OPTN systems.
  • Participate in a minimum of eight 24-hour on-call shifts per month (including holidays and weekends), based on staffing and business needs.
  • Schedule time off with appropriate advance notice in coordination with the manager.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service, multitasking, and communication skills.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and team projects as assigned.
  • Attend team meetings outside of scheduled call hours as necessary.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct reports.

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Ability to maintain focus and effectively manage time in a high-pressure environment.
  • Must be highly flexible and willing to work within a 24×7 operational environment, including an inconsistent schedule spanning all shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Health Science, Biological Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Transplant Coordinator, Organ Procurement Coordinator, or similar role with a strong clinical background in transplantation and in-depth knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.​

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five or more years of experience as a Transplant Coordinator, Organ Procurement Coordinator, or in a similar transplant-related clinical role.
  • Experience working with multiple organ transplant programs or high-volume transplant centers.
  • Advanced knowledge of OPTN policies, transplant operations, and organ allocation processes.
  • Experience participating in quality improvement initiatives or process improvement within a transplant program.
  • Ability to work effectively with all members of interdisciplinary transplant teams.
  • Working knowledge of transplant logistics and vendor management.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional while working under pressure.
  • Ability and confidence to make independent decisions regarding donor medical management, logistical arrangements, and organ allocation.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple dynamic priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with medical compliance and clinical data sharing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and electronic medical record systems.

Salary Compensation

TransMedics is committed to equitable and transparent compensation. The expected base salary range for this role is $83,700 -$107,400 which represents the company’s current good-faith estimate of compensation for this position. Actual salary will depend on factors such as, but not limited to, candidate experience, qualifications, skills, and the specific work location. This role may also be eligible for bonuses, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, retirement savings, paid time off, and wellness resources). We comply with all U.S. pay transparency laws and do not request or consider salary history.
